Winter of Discontent

Change. The time is near, but not yet. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the voice of Dissension, Discontentment, Disaffection, and Disappointment with our dear leaders, has grown to an unprecedented level. During the last poll, the present government managed a “resounding” 66.6% mandate, not from Heaven but from its people. “Resounding” indeed as it was their poorest showing to date, especially so when you consider that their fielding included a newly incumbent Prime Minister and numerous post-65′ MPs.

The current state of our Opposition is not exactly enviable either. They are neither united, their manifesto divergently different on various policy issues, nor do they have the critical mass of qualified members who are able to form the next government of the day. On top of that, some Opposition Parties have been criticized for being silent on a variety of important issues which affect the everyday lives of people. Their silence have been deafening, and have been taken as them being compliant with or them acting the part of a stooge of the present government. A complete overhaul is long overdue.

I long for the day when creditable men and women come forward, offering an alternative voice, offering real checks and balances, and offering a real choice, so that our society can propagate itself into the new millenia without the fear of “knuckleduster” politics.

Make no mistake. Change may be fashionable, but change is a formidable task. Change may be lip service, but change requires such a momentous movement. Change may be derided by the establishment, but change is fundamental and paramount because it is vital and consequential to our survival as a nation. For without real change, our future generations will suffer the sins of our present folly.

Oh dear, is this all doom and gloom for us? Can we afford to wait and see? Can we continue to be devoid of passion in the process of nation building? Must we continue to shrivel up in fear and allow our lives to be dictated and enslaved?

The answer lies in ourselves. You have to believe that you can be, and you are, an agent of change, no matter how small the contributions may be. You must listen to your inner voice and make that first step in liberating yourself from the shackles of fear, in order to have your voice heard. The power of your voice is strong. The power of your voice is what makes governments fear. The power of your voice is in your vote. The power of your voice, is in your hands!

Your choice, determines your future.
